Tim Cook promises 'continued improvements' for Apple Maps

After months of customers reporting issues with Apple Maps, CEO Tim Cook has once again commented on fixing the service.

According to Cook, the company has rolled out several improvements to Apple Maps in recent months and will keep going until customer expectations are met. He noted that customers have noticed the changes.

In a September note to customers, Apple said "Maps is a cloud-based solution and the more people use it, the better it will get. We appreciate all of the customer feedback and are working hard to make the customer experience even better.” Around the same time, a rumour surfaced that Apple dedicated an entire team to fixing the issues.

Apple has received widespread backlash from customers around the globe realising that the new maps app while good in some respects, such as the new Flyover view, is lacking in others. Users have criticized the new app for its lack of transit and walking directions, listing companies, restaurants and bars no longer open, and even satellite imagery blocked by cloud cover.

Subsequently after being ditched by Apple, Google launched its own mapping solution that rose to the top of the App Store charts quickly.

Lastly, Cook didn't delve into the exact number of users using Apple Maps, but did say usage is much higher than its initial launch.
